i'm cool on that

I don't know if it's the cold. I think it's more the kiss of spring weather for a few days and then the smack of winter again. It's made me a bit...prickly.

I'm cool on everyone calling any shirt that has a collar and buttons a 'button down'. I'm pretty sure a button down is a shirt that has a collar that buttons down. Anything else is just a shirt.

The word irregardless. It's not a word. I don't care if it's in the dictionary. It is not a word. It is a double negative. It's just dumb and makes you sound like you're trying way too hard. So please, everyone just stop saying 'irregardless'.

I'm also really cool on girls who say they don't get along with other girls and only have guy friends. If you were on a first date and she said "I just don't get a long with Japanese people." You'd leave thinking, "Yes, she's pretty, she offered to pay, too bad she's a racist.'" Girls, guys don't think "guys' girls" are all that great. I kind of think it makes you sound like a sexist. And maybe a misanthrope in general. Nobody likes a misanthrope.

i'm cool on that

I'm all for literacy. And really, I have nothing against Harry Potter or any of those series. What I am cool on is girls my age loving them. I understand reading them for fun or whatever. But really, when you're pushing a quarter of a century and you haven't found a novel better than Harry Potter you should give up now. It's not really endearing nor do I find it cute.  I'm not the most erudite individual but I know for a fact that there are a ton of great reads out there. Looking for a series of books that involve a recurring cast of characters? Check out Salinger's stuff on the Glass family. (and then you'd know why I named my dog franny) Want to read a book that is going to be made into a movie? Check out Youth in Revolt by C.D. Payne. I really liked this book back in the day. Want to impress that cute girl who's always reading Foucault and Hawthorne? Pick up the Norton Anthology of Short Fiction. Tell her your favorite just happens to be Young Goodman Brown

Get them at your local independent bookstore. My favorite around here is John King Books. (more on this magical place in the future)
